When Covid hit in 2020, countless couples saw their dream weddings vanish overnight. For one couple, their destination wedding in the Dominican Republic was cancelled when their venue shut down and travel and parties became impossible. Instead of giving up, they chose to adapt, celebrate differently, and focus on what truly mattered; their love and the people closest to them.
Their story is proof that even when plans change, you can still create a wedding day that feels meaningful, memorable and completely yours.
From destination wedding to Florida beaches
Originally, this couple was set to say “I do” on the beaches of the Dominican Republic. When the shutdown happened, they turned their disappointment into an opportunity. The bride invited me to Florida where she and her husband, the wedding party and their families all shared a condo just steps away from the beach.
On the day of our portraits, the skies were cloudy but that didn’t stop the celebration. We headed to the beach for candids, playful portraits of the bride and groom together, plus fun family photos for the wedding party and their families.

A back porch wedding at home
Once at home, the couple hosted a simple ceremony with their immediate family in their backyard. No chandeliers, no five star venues, just heartfelt vows, happy tears, and the comfort of home.
The groom, who happened to be a chef, prepared a delicious menu for everyone while the wedding party helped with appetizers, drinkes, the decor and cake. Together, they turned an ordinary evening into a wedding celebration filled with love and laughter.

Why this was perfect
This couples story is a reminder that weddings aren’t defined by location or size. What made their day perfect wasn’t the venue, the weather, or the timeline, it was the resilience they showed and the people they chose to share it with.
If you’re considering an alternative wedding day whether it’s an intimate beach portrait session, a backyard ceremony, or a small dinner with family, know that your wedding can be just as meaningful, no matter where it happens.
I’d love to document your day, as perfect as it is. Let’s connect 🤍
